Boy Toy Party

Calling all car enthusiasts! Laura, Rick and I were invited to Kelly and Steve’s annual ‘Boy Toy Party’, which is an event for car collectors from all over the region to highlight their prized vehicles. It was overwhelming with 80 amazing cars to browse. I couldn’t even begin to photograph them all, but I did find out to my surprise that Laura is a ‘Vette’ girl! Maybe one for us in the near future?! Take a look at a few of the highlights of our journey… I can’t wait until next year!

When Mommy Goes Away Pt. 2

It was about this time last year that Laura went away for a short while. During that brief time, I discovered my two boys quietly making themselves into ‘Warriors’ with markers. You may recall the post that I did called ‘When Mommy Goes Away’.

This is a little 13 minute movie that Laura and I put together from our friends impromptu wedding and 40th Birthday gathering in Stinson Beach last weekend… What more could we ask? A beach house wedding, great friends, 40th birthday, fresh oysters, scotch tasting… an amazing weekend celebration.

When Mommy Goes Away…

You may remember the blog post that I did about a six months ago called ‘Who Left the Markers Out?’. A few days ago I had an experience that was all too familiar, except this time there was a little twist.

Mason really wanted to be in charge of a project this past weekend. He is a very industrious kid, who loves to build and create (remember BUGBOT?). Mason is a very thoughtful boy too. This time, he decided to send mommy away for a few hours so that he could make a Mother’s Day gift for her. This was completely his idea.

The Mother’s Day gift project went really well. Mason took the lead, designating assignments for Miles and I to do, while expressing exactly what he wanted to create for her. We had a great time together and I am pretty sure that Laura is going to love her gift!

After cleaning up the mess that was made, I noticed that things were a little quiet… Just a little too quiet. As a parent, you know that when there is silence in a house of two boys, a dad and no mommy, it can only mean one thing… TROUBLE.

I wandered back into the great room and saw four little feet under the table. Only these weren’t just any feet, these feet were covered in marker! I peeked under the table and saw the boys putting on their warrior paint. I LOVE the creativity! Just love it! They really transformed their whole selves into warriors, physically and mentally.

As I continued to watch unnoticed, they marked each other in a whispered quietness, as if they were getting ready for battle. I had a nostalgic flashback of the last time this happened and how great it was to see both boys getting along so well and being creative with markers… Markers… Oh no… NOT THOSE MARKERS!!! As I got a closer look, I saw that these were not the watercolor markers that they used before. They had gotten into the ‘As seen on TV’ – Blendy Pens! Oh my!

Well, I tried to remain as calm and relaxed as possible, allowing them to continue in their warrior spirit. I did a quick test on Miles to see if their markings would come out…

I immediately texted Laura “We are done with the project… PLEASE come home now!”

She arrived to see this:

Ok, so here is the good news… After a dip in the kiddy pool, a warm bath and a good scrubbing, most (not all) of their markings came out.

Maybe we should put the Blendy Pens away for a while?!

Sossaman Family Visit

We love getting together with the Sossamans! They are such a kind and loving family and our time together is so enjoyable. Every time we see them our friendship grows and we never want our family ‘dates’ to end.

Sharon had a great idea for the next time we were together… We would make an attempt to rally the kids and try to our best to take some family portraits. Well, we just recently got the families together and gave it our best shot…

We heading down to Fort Baker, near the Presidio Yacht club, and arrived just as the sun was setting and the sky was a stunning shade of blue. The light was beautiful, the girls were all dolled up and we were determined to make the most of it. While it was difficult to keep the kids attention, we were able to pull off a few good images from our excursion. In the end, we all had fun, we learned from our experience and we captured a few great moments.

Give It Up For Loni!

Our dear friend Loni Weholt has been battling a rare type of cancer since July 2009. Loni is a producer based in San Francisco and her good spirit has touched many in our industry. On Friday night the San Francisco photography community came together to celebrate Loni. Our generous host, Erik Almas, opened his home creating an intimate setting for us to come together, enjoy fine wines, sample delectable cheeses and admire beautiful artwork. There was a silent auction of donated photographic prints that you could bid on and all funds went directly to Loni’s treatment and hospital bills. Please visit the “Give It Up For Loni” website created by her friends and family to learn more about the foundation. We are also very excited that we won an auction item! We are now the proud owners of a David Martinez print and so happy that we were able to support our friend. Don’t you just love this photo!

A photo booth was set up at the party with pen and paper to send messages to Loni. Here are just a few of the photos from the evening:

In case any of you are wondering what ‘Birdlove’ means… It comes from our other business called, BirdMan, Inc. We have been scouting Northern California locations for advertising photo shoots, videos and television spots for about 13 years now.

Best of Wedding Photography

We have become one of the founding members of Best of Wedding Photography!

After screening nearly 5000 photographers, we were one of the final 350 wedding photographers from around the world to be invited to be a founding member.

David Beckstead, Ben Chrisman, Del Sol Photography (Matt Adcock and Sol Tamargo), Glen Johnson, Anna Kuperberg, Crash Taylor, and David Ziser were on the panel of photographers that contributed to the review process.

We are very honored and humbled that they have chosen GB Photographers to be a part of such an exclusive group.
